Thoughtful Letter

RE: Mum’s desperate bid for double transplant – Bid to get more people on organ donor register. (Chorley Guardian, Wednesday, November 2, 2011)

I was very touched by Natalie Kerr’s article in last week’s Chorley Guardian (Nov 2nd). I checked in my purse for my donor card which I thought I had. I am ashamed to say that I must have discarded it when having a sort out. I went on the internet and it took me a couple of minutes to register.

Natalie said that she believes that people may be put off joining the list because they think it is a long or difficult process. I agree with her about this but I also think that the majority of us are scared to think about death. Becci, our eldest daughter had a very sensitive nature and would leave the room if we talked about illness or death. However, she took carrying her donor card with her very seriously and I remember her quite often getting it out and showing it to us. Becci tragically died in a coach crash in Ecuador in 2008 and her wish for her organs to be donated could not be fulfilled. This is something that upsets me to this day. In memory of Becci, and out of respect and admiration for Natalie’s bravery, I would like to urge us all to consider joining the donor register.

I desperately hope that Natalie gets her double lung transplant so that she can be with her children as they grow up. She is very courageous to face up to what is happening and to talk openly and honestly with her children.

Jane Logie

what a lovely letter so thoughtful and touching, thank you very much Jane, hoping this will encourage many more to register as donors. I am proud to say that we as Natalie`s Mum & Dad are registered Donor`s since 1993.
