A battling Chorley mum who underwent a double lung transplant has been rushed back to hospital after contracting pneumonia.

Natalie Kerr, who had the eight-hour procedure just five months ago, was on holiday with family in Spain to celebrate the successful operation when she started to feel unwell.

She was flown back from Fuengirola on an emergency flight on Monday and is now in the Intensive Care Unit at Manchester’s Wythenshawe Hospital, where doctors have told her she has the condition in both lungs.

Natalie, 30, was amazing doctors with her progress after undergoing the operation in February.

And the brave mum-of-two to Brandon, nine, and Isabelle, four, spoke out last week to encourage more people to sign the donor register as part of Organ Donor Week.

Speaking from the hospital, dad Eric thanked Natalie’s many friends and well-wishers who have supported them throughout the ordeal.

He said: “Natalie was looking forward to her holiday so much and to spending time with Brandon and Isabelle.

“Although not feeling too well she thought she would feel better with the sea breeze.

“Unfortunately Natalie fell unwell during the first night there and we decided to take no chances.”

Natalie, who had previously worked as a nurse, was diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension in 2009 which caused her to have problems breathing, and she had to administer herself oxygen on a daily basis.

Speaking last week, Natalie said: “I just feel so much better. Me and the children are happy and we can now start planning for the future.”

Dad Eric said: “After being diagnosed with pneumonia she was rushed to the ICU for further treatment.

“Although Natalie is still very poorly, she is feeling a lot better then yesterday.

“She has been on some strong antibiotics, steroids, anti-rejection medication and the doctors are confident that they can get it sorted and once the medications kicks in Natalie should start feeling a lot better. She is in good hands and well looked after. Natalie is very moved by the wonderful messages of support on Facebook and on texts. We can’t thank everyone enough for their support.”
